Intex Aqua i3 - Expert Reviews
Though Intex, the Indian mobile, IT and consumer durables company started some 8 years back, it is a fairly new player in the smartphone business. It entered the mobile industry in 2012 and has since produced quality phones at affordable prices. Intex, which has been focusing more on its mobile manufacturing sector has launched a new phone named Intex Aqua i3. This smartphone features a 5 inches multi touch LCD capacitive touchscreen sporting a pixel density of 196ppi. It has an 8 megapixels primary rear camera and a 2 megapixels secondary front facing camera for video calling. It runs on Android v4.2.2 (JellyBean) platform and features a 1000MHz single-core processer. With 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory and 32GB of external expandable memory through microSD card slot, Intex Aqua i3 is powered by an 1800mAh Li-ion battery that is expected to offer a talk time 6 hours.
Operating system and UI
Intex Aqua i3 is a dual-SIM smartphone with a 5 inches LCD capacitive touchscreen sporting a modest display resolution of 480 x 854 pixels and a pixel density of 196ppi. It houses a 1GHz single-core processer and runs on Android v4.2.2 (JellyBean) OS.
Intex Aqua i3 sports an 8 megapixels primary rear camera equipped with features such as LED flash, auto focus and digital zoom. The 2 megapixels secondary camera at the front for video calling is also something to be happy about. The resolution of the primary camera is 3264 x 2448 pixels. The phone also supports video recording. It also features audio and video playback, FM radio and sports a 3.5mm jack for ear phones.
The picture and video quality is pretty average on Intex Aqua i3. The presence of LED flash and digital zoom option can help snappers a little to take decent pictures under low light conditions.
Intex Aqua i3 provides 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE and GPS support to stay in touch with the world. In addition, the phone is also equipped with Bluetooth that aids connectivity with compatible phones for transfer for files. It also features the Android WebKit browser for seamless web surfing.
Intex Aqua i3 houses a 'not so great' 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal memory (ROM). Users will get more space to store their files with the help of an external expandable memory by up to 32GB through the microSD card slot.
Intex Aqua i3 features a bunch of preloaded apps such as OPERA and Intex Zone that contain many pre-loaded applications such as Intex Games Club, Matrabhasha, NQ Security, NQ Vault, Bigflix, OLX, Getit, GreetZap, Intex Care, Saavn, Hungama, Sony Liv, Newshunt, Clik it, WeChat launcher and other social media applications. Users can also download several free and paid apps as well as games (Temple Run 3, Contra, Subway Surfer etc) from the Google Play Store.
Intex Aqua i3 is powered by a Li-ion 1800mAh battery that is expected to offer a talk time of 6 hours and a standby time of 250 hours respectively.
Intex Aqua i3 offers 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, GPRS, EDGE and Wi-Fi connectivity options. The micro USB port ensures faster transfer of files.
Comparing Intex Aqua i3 with Micromax A77 Canvas, one can find that the phone weighs a little heavier than its opponent at 119 grams as opposed to Canvas's 100.5 grams. Though Intex i3 is little on the heavier side, it sports a thinner look because of its 9.6mm thickness when compared to Canvas A77’s 10.2mm thickness. Both the phones feature a 5 inches screen and sport two SIM card slots. When it comes to the snappers, Intex Aqua i3 wins hands down because of its 8MP primary camera and a decent 2MP secondary camera, for Micromax Canvas A77 features a 5MP primary rear camera and a very basic 0.3MP secondary front camera. Since the pixel density on both the phones is of 196ppi, there is not much of a difference in the quality of the images.
The Micromax phone runs on a better 1000MHz dual-core processer as compared to i3's 1000MHz single-core processer. So, users can experience better speed and performance from Micromax Canvas A77 when compared to Intex Aqua i3. Canvas A77 scores again in the memory section by featuring 1GB of RAM when compared to Aqua i3’s 512MB of RAM. The internal memory on both the phones is of 4GB and the external expandable memory is at 32GB. Both the phones run on Android v4.2.2 (JellyBean) platform and offer similar connectivity options such as 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Canvas A77 offers an excellent battery backup with its 3000mAh Li-ion battery as compared to Aqua Intex i3’s 1800mAh battery. When it comes to the cost, Micromax Canvas A77 costs a wee bit higher than the Intex i3. Intex i3 has a price tag of Rs.6,300.
July 2014: Even though Intex Aqua i3 is a relatively cheaper phone, the features it comes with are not very appealing, for when most of the budget phones come with a dual-core processer, the presence of a single-core processer is a great disappointment. Techies and smartphone experts feel that this phone might experience sluggishness if multiple applications are run instantaneously. The phone does well in the camera department, for the 8MP primary camera and the 2MP secondary shooter will definitely keep the users busy.
At a time when smartphone users are very particular about the capacity of RAM, Intex’s decision to put in a mere 512MB of RAM is not very impressive. With a pixel density of just 196ppi, users can’t expect more in the display department. Though Intex has priced it as a budget phone, there are a lot of better phones available in the market at the same price. Intex will be a good buy should you are not too finicky about the features of the phone and are willing to compromise with a lot of things. The highlights of the phone are as follows:
*5 inches LCD capacitive touchscreen
*Google Android v4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) OS
*1.0GHz single-core processer
*8MP primary rear camera, 2MP secondary front camera
