Intex Cloud Y12 Black - Expert Reviews
Times have been quite rough for Intex as far as the smartphone market is concerned, although the smartphone industry in itself has boomed as usual by attracting more consumers than ever. Intex on the other hand, has not been able to attract as many consumers as it would have liked, especially in the urban or the semi-urban areas. In the rural areas, with budget Android-less gadgets, it has done comparatively well. The competition is so tough at present that there is intense rivalry among loads of the tier2 firms with nothing much to choose from. Intex therefore, is raising its stakes with an entry-level mid carter phone that runs on the Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 operating system, which is a significant boost from the Gingerbread software platform that it straddled on in its previous creations. Intex Cloud Y12 offers a respectable 4 inches FWVGA capacitive touchcscreen with a resolution of 480 by 800 pixels and 262k color resolution.
The pixel density, as anticipated, has been kept modest for the gadget. The length of Intex Cloud Y12 is 126.5mm, while its width and thickness are 64.4mm and 12.1mm respectively. At 136.7 grams, Intex Cloud Y12 is not that heavy and is available in the colors of Red, White, Black and Blue. A look under the hood reveals that the device holds a 1.2GHz dual core processor and 512MB of RAM that are pretty much acceptable for the kind of calibre the device is intended for under a given price range. As mentioned above, with the presence of Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 operating system things will look up for the gaming lovers with a massive domain of similar applications to choose from. Another source of enjoyment and entertainment would be the music player and video players with the former providing the means to create a customized list of songs and the latter doing the same for videos.
The internal memory of the device is 4GB where 1.7GB can be put to actual use while the remaining would go for application installation. The given memory has a higher chance of running out, if the data collection becomes large and in that case, a microSD card slot can be employed that offers 32GB of expansion limit. The camera department consists of two shutters with the one at the front offering VGA strength for snapping selfies or making video calls with Wi-Fi in an activated state. The primary camera is comparatively, in a better position pixel-wise with 2 megapixels to be exact, capturing images at a resolution of 1600 by 1200 pixels. Digital zoom and LED flash are there for assistance but no auto focus is provided. There is nothing exceptional about the connectivity segment that the device features with GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, HTML browser, USB port and Bluetooth encompassing what the smartphone has to offer.
The device has various pre-installed games such as Angry Gorilla, Chennai Express, Thunder Fighter HD and Zombie Quest. The dual SIM facility adds more utility to the gadget in contrast to the entertainment aspect that we have seen till now. The quad band frequencies supported by the GSM SIM include 850, 900, 1800 and 1900MHz. The presence of 2000mAh standard lithium-ion battery in Intex Cloud Y12 has the strength to deliver a talk time of up to 5 hours along with a standby time of up to 180 hours. Other pre-installed applications that the device garners include Getit, Intex game club, Intex play, Matrabhasha, NQ Mobile security etc.
Operating system and UI
Intex Cloud Y12 has a 4 inches FWVGA capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 480 by 800 pixels and 262k color resolution. The display is not the sharpest one we have come across, but does a decent job with swiping menus in terms of speed.
The music player and FM radio take care of music with the former supporting tons of formats for playing the desired set of songs. The video player for Intex Cloud Y12 can be used to watch movies with great results.
There is not much zing behind the camera department of Intex Cloud Y12 with the primary camera having just 2 megapixels strength. The VGA secondary camera does not blow us away either with a 0.3 megapixels backup. The front camera does not have the LED flash and auto focus features that the primary camera comes laden with.
Internet access on Intex Cloud Y12 is looked after by Wi-Fi, WAP browser, HTML browser, GPRS and EDGE. The user can download games, images and videos or even songs while Facebook and Twitter can be accessed through SNS integration.
The actual usable memory provided by Intex Cloud Y12 is of 1.7GB, whereas the user can take the external one to a massive 32GB via the microSD card slot should the former exhausts itself. The RAM offered is of 512MB, which is fairly manageable for normal activities.
Intex Game Club, Intex Cloud and OLX are some of the preinstalled applications that Intex Cloud Y12 offer, while some of the preinstalled games featured by the gadget include Angry Gorilla, Chennai Express, Thunder Fighter HD and Zombie Quest. Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system makes sure that the user can lay his or her hands on plenty of games and apps via Google Play Store App.
Intex Cloud Y12 is kept upright for longer hours via 2000mAh standard lithium-ion battery. The talk time derived via the power supply for the gadget is up to 5 hours, whereas the standby time churned out is up to 180 hours.
Exciting features like NFC or infrared port are missing from Intex Cloud Y12, but the remaining usual features like USB port, Bluetooth, HTML5 browser, GPRS and EDGE are provided. The quad band frequencies for GSM SIM include 850, 900, 1800 and 1900MHz.
Intex Cloud Y12, when compared to Karbonn A11, has an identical display size of 4 inches each with same resolution, but the pixel density is more with the latter. Both gadgets have 512MB of RAM but the processor for Intex Cloud Y12 is dual core, which is stronger than the 1GHz single core processor of Karbonn A11. The 4GB internal memory space of Intex Cloud Y12 is matched by Karbon A11 with its 32GB microSD card slot. The primary camera for Intex Cloud Y12 is 2 megapixels as compared to the 5 megapixels primary camera of Karbonn A11. The secondary camera is also better with Karbonn A11 - 1.3 megapixels, as compared to the 0.3 megapixels secondary camera of Intex Cloud Y12.
The battery strength is better with Intex Cloud Y12 with 2000mAh standard lithium-ion power supply, while the same is 1500mAh with Karbonn A11. The standby time however, is longer with Karbonn A11 offering up to 200 hours as compared to the 180 hours provided by Intex Cloud Y12. Intex Cloud Y12 runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 operating system, which is a more revised version than Karbonn A11's Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.
