Maxx GenxDroid7 AX353 - Expert Reviews
The age of Android is becoming faster and more diverse and what was considered latest today is considered primitive tomorrow. So companies have to evolve faster as consumers in order to stay updated with technology have to switch devices constantly. All these changes may put a lot of strain on both the manufacturers and the consumers. To avoid such hefty price tags consumers often prefer a more economical smartphone rather than the brand value. Hence we have firms like Maxx trying to target their devices at similar kind of consumers.
Maxx AX353 is a budget smartphone that features a 3.5-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen and is extremely light in weight with just 67 grams and that too including the battery. The length of the device is 118.8mm, breadth is 63mm and the thickness of the smartphone is 11.9mm. The screen resolution is low with 320 by 480 pixels but its effect would not be felt as much since the size is not that big for display. There is support for the dual-SIM facility that allows usage of two tariff plans that should come in handy for a user who has to travel a lot. Hardware is not the strongest one would come across with a 1GHz spreadtrum processor along with 256MB RAM. For some, Android Gingerbread may sound a little historic but that is the software platform that has been chosen for Maxx AX353. To start off, the internal memory would not be much for the user to cash in with 512MB out of which some would be taken away for application installation. But through the microSD card slot, another 32GB can be added that enables the user to create a huge arcade of data including songs, games, images and videos.
A 2 megapixel primary camera is given at the back of Maxx AX353 while a VGA front camera is also provided at the front end. The former functions at a resolution of 1600 by 1200 pixels while the latter at 640 by 480 pixels. An LED flash and digital zoom is provided for assistance as well. Wi-Fi Hotspot is the most noteworthy feature of the web connectivity with Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE and HTML browser being its other elements. Bluetooth, USB port, etc. are the remaining data connectivity features that facilitate data exchange activities. With 1,450mAh standard lithium-ion battery the user can derive a standby time of up to 300 hours along with a talk time of up to 5 hours.
Operating system and UI
Maxx AX353 comes with a 3.5-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen that has a below average resolution of 320 by 480 pixels. The HVGA display is reasonably fast when it comes to responsiveness.
Maxx AX353 has a music player supporting formats like MP3, AAC, WAV, AMR, M4A, OGG whereas the video player is compatible with the formats of MP4, 3GP, AVI, MKV, MOV. There is also an FM radio by which the user can not only hear songs on the popular radio stations but can also record them as and when required or desired. Earphones work well in terms of the depth of the sound quality whereas the loudspeakers could have been better at higher volume.
Camera department is not too elaborate with Maxx AX353. The primary camera has a prudent 2 megapixels strength while the secondary camera is a meek 0.3 megapixels in strength. The user can capture images using the rear camera at a resolution of 1600 by 1200 pixels while with the secondary shutter images can be clicked at 640 by 480 pixels. Video calling and web chats are possible too using the secondary shutter.
Maxx AX353 has lots to depend on in the Interne segment with WI-FI and GPRS, EDGE along with the HTML browser. The user can check his or her mails or download data according to his or her needs like songs, games, images and videos. Wi-Fi hot spot is one feature that the user would enjoy as it allows plenty of other devices to use its connection to access the web or even vica versa.
Maxx AX353 provides a modest 512MB internal memory to utilize initially but the stakes can be raised high through the microSD card slot that has a 32GB expansion limit. RAM is humble too with 256MB.
Maxx AX353 does not have the best of games although applications are preinstalled in decent quantity. The weak RAM and processor restricts the user from running high end games while Android Gingerbread operating system not being the latest software platform is comparatively limited when it comes to accessing the latest games and applications.
Maxx AX353 sheds a decent amount of talk time of up to 5 hours with the help of the 1,450mAh standard lithium-ion battery. Standby time is pretty impressive with up to 300 hours. The smartphone also allows the user to listen to music for longer hours without being interrupted.
Maxx AX353 has a vigorous set of connectivity with Wi-Fi hot spot being the most high profile one. Other connectivity components include USB port, Bluetooth, GPRS and EDGE. The device supports the dual band frequencies of 900 and 1800 MHz.
Maxx AX353 when compared to Micromax bolt A51 has a similar 3.5-inch display with identical resolution. RAM is 256MB for both the smartphones while the internal memory and the microSD card slot capability also remains the same with 512MB and 32GB respectively. The camera department is also identical in terms of pixel strength with 2 megapixels for primary shutter and VGA camera for secondary shutter. But the quality of images produced is better with Micromax Bolt A51 when it comes to the primary camera. Both the smartphones run on the Android Gingerbread operating system as well. Maxx AX353 is powered by the 1,450mAh standard lithium-ion battery slightly weaker than the 1,500mAh standard lithium-ion battery of Micromax Bolt A51. But the talk time and standby time offered is more with Maxx AX353.
August, 2013: Maxx AX353 is a mid-scale budget smartphone from the new entrant Maxx that comes with a 3.5-inch display. With the low-price also come some compromises in the specification as the smartphone runs on the Android Gingerbread operating system, which is quite a bit behind the current Android Jelly Bean version. Other features are also more or less on the lower side of the spectrum. The gadget is dual-SIM in nature that should add more utility to its intent.
