Maxx MX1 ARC Black & Green - Expert Reviews

A low priced mobile phone, as compared to the expensive high profile smartphone will never garner as much limelight, as the latter does in the electronic and print media. However, that does not mean that the importance of such budget devices is any less in a developing economy like India. In fact, the budget devices sell more than the Android smartphones, for the simple reason that most of the population in the country cannot afford them, at least for now. In addition, in that spirit, we have the Maxx MX1 ARC from another tier2 company by the name of Maxx. The device comes with a length of 108mm, breadth of 45.2mm, and a height of 15.1mm. The device is 74grams in weight, which is very light that is, including the battery. The battery strength on the other hand is neither a heavy weight nor a lightweight with the standard lithium-ion 1050mAh. The talk time delivered is not the least bit impressive with just up to 3.5hours while the standby time is up to 260hours. The screen size is puny with 1.8inches that rather defines the overall theme of the gadget. With 64k colors, there is not much to elaborate upon. It is not that there are no entertainment features, for there is a music player providing decent sound quality and a quality video player. An FM radio always helps in keeping in touch with the latest songs that entertainment world has to offer, with access to popular radio stations. Internal memory is not the strong point of the device with just enough space for storing 250 contacts and 100 SMS's. However, the shortage in storage capacity can be overcome with a microSD card slot featuring an 8GB expansion limit.

The camera is okay with the digital strength that produces, what can only be described as, mediocre images, same can be said about the video recordings as well. Internet with GPRS, EDGE and WAP browser is available, but at a slow speed that degrades even more, when it comes to web sites that consume more data. Rest of the connectivity features include a Bluetooth, while the USB port is absent from the device. The device is compatible with the dual SIM facility that means that the user can assign two numbers to his or her mobile phone without losing the active state of the other. Other important applications and features offered by the device include Alarm, Calendar, Calculator, Torch, Phone Lock, Privacy Protection, Anti Theft, Auto Call Record, Speed Dial, Auto Redial, Call Time Minute Reminder, Call Blacklist, English and Hindi Language.

Operating system and UI

Maxx MX1 ARC has a minuscule 1.8-inch TFT screen that is backed by a feeble resolution of 65k colors. The device also comes with an alphanumeric keypad for interaction with the screen.

Other Features

Maxx MX1 ARC uses the video player for watching videos, but the 1.8-inch screen size does not exactly give the best viewing angles. The music player can be used to hear songs but of your desired choice, while FM radio plays the songs as broadcast by the radio stations. The music player supports the formats namely, MP3, AAC, and WAV, and the video player is compatible with MP4, 3GP, and AVI.

Maxx MX1 ARC offers a digital camera that is not much of use, in case you are looking to hang the images clicked on the wall, as portraits. There is digital zoom facility for getting a better crack at the objects located at a distance but for the most part, it is not that helpful. Also, video recordings can be shot at an average quality.

Maxx MX1 ARC allows the user to visit low-scaled web sites at a reasonable pace, but the one heavy ones are hard to get through. Connectivity features such as WAP browser and GPRS are the only means to access the web without any Wi-Fi.

Maxx MX1 ARC has a microSD card slot, an absolute must accessory to have, for the meagre internal memory that can only accommodate 250 contacts and 100 SMS, considered low by today’s standard. The user, after the use of the microSD card slot, can stretch the external memory of the device up to 8GB, a healthy amount indeed.

Other Features

Maxx MX1 ARC has a few games up its sleeves including the F1 Race that should keep the user entertained. More games can be downloaded from the web after you pay a certain amount of cost that to our opinion is not worth it.

Maxx MX1 ARC has a standard lithium-ion battery of 1050mAh that shields out a talk time of up to 3.5hours and a standby time of up to 260hours. Both the figures are disappointing, but should get the user through the day, in case of light usage.

Maxx MX1 ARC offers nothing out of the exceptional with Bluetooth and GPRS along with EDGE technology. There is a WAP browser too, but there is no USB port for connecting the device to a computer or a laptop.

Other Features

Maxx MX1 ARC when compared to Micromax X099 has the identical 1.8-inch display. Both the devices have a microSD card slot at the top, but Maxx MX1 ARC has an 8GB expansion capacity while Micromax X099 has a 4GB limit. Maxx MX1 ARC has a digital camera, whereas the Micromax X099 has a VGA camera. Both the devices are dual SIM in nature. The battery strength is 1050mAh for Maxx MX1 ARC that is better than the 900mAh standard lithium-ion battery of Micromax X099; still the talk time and standby time are more with Micromax X099.

Other Features

May 31, 2013. Maxx MX1 ARC is a low budget device that has a 1.8-inch screen. The device is designed more for the utility with dual SIM facility, but the battery strength is a little low with 1050mAh that delivers a weak talk time and standby time.
