Micromax Bolt Q332 Black - Expert Reviews
Micromax Bolt Q332 is a tastefully designed mobile phone packed with decent specs at a competitively priced package. The major USP of this smartphone seems to be its rock bottom pricing (Rs.4,641), besides its big screen, latest Android Lollipop OS and a quad- core processor. This new kid on the block is available in Black colour only and competes against Xolo Era, Micromax Bolt 339, Micromax 338 and Huawei Ascend P7, among others.
The design of Micromax Q332 is simple yet elegant, for it comes swathed with a good quality plastic casing wherein the looks are great and the overall durability seems to be fine. Like most smartphones of today, this one too carries curvy edges making holding and carrying it on your person a lot easier. It sports a slim black colour bezel running all around the display that comes with a big chin. The three capacitive buttons of Back, Home and Multipurpose are placed on the screen itself, which restrict the available screen space. The sides are well polished and have a glazed look. The volume rocker and power button are placed on the left side of the handset, whereas the right side does not have any buttons.
At the top right hand side of the speaker, you will find a front facing camera along with a proximity sensor. Again, at the top there is a 3.5mm audio port while at the bottom there is a microphone and a power charging port. The back panel of this handset is smooth and is made out of plastic. At the top of the back panel, you will find the primary camera along with LED flash. And at the middle of the back panel, the ‘clenched fist’ logo of Micromax stays embossed.
The big 5-inch crisp and clear IPS display of this handset is one of its many positives, for it supports a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels but a dismal pixel density of 196ppi. Due to its low pixel density, rendering of images is not that great along the edges and the viewing angles are quite average as well. The display supports 16M colour, but the colour saturation is not that good and legibility under direct sunlight is not proper either. There is no information on the presence of Corning Gorilla Glass layer to safeguard it from scratches or splashes. Hence, the overall experience of this display leaves a lot to be desired.
Micromax Bolt Q332 is a multipurpose smartphone with two cameras of different strengths representing its camera segment. The primary one comes with a 5MP sensor and an LED flash to shoot good quality pictures even when the light condition is not optimum. This camera can take videos in HD resolution at the rate of 30fps and shoot good quality still pictures.
The primary shooter comes with several built-in features such as Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, digital zoom, timer, panorama, and face detection. The secondary shooter is a bit of a downer, for it is of only 2MP strength. This secondary camera takes average quality selfies and can be used to conduct video calls over Skype. However, the videos are a bit grainy.
Micromax Bolt Q332 is equipped with a powerful and capable 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT 6580 processor, which can run the most challenging of apps without any major problem.
Operating system and UI
The company has provided this handset with the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop OS, with its own UI skinned at the top. The new UI called FirsTouch has been totally redesigned and features many exciting elements like support for 10 regional languages.Besides, there is an AppBazar feature that allows downloading relevant apps of your choice that support any of the 10 regional languages.
Also, the FirsTouch launcher has been designed in a way that people with a slight vision problem like the elderly will find it quite handy – the icons being big and layout simple.
This handset gives you a dual SIM facility, wherein you can use two numbers simultaneously. One of the SIM supports 3G network whereas the other supports 2G only. Furthermore, the handset supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi direct Wi-Fi Hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP, AGPS, USB High speed 2.0 and a micro USB port.
Sensors allow users to get a more polished experience from their handsets, and Micromax Bolt Q332 too is integrated with a few like Accelerometer, Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor and Gyro.
Micromax Bolt Q332 comes out of the box with a mediocre 512MB of RAM and 2GB of onboard storage. In addition, it also features a microSD card slot that allows you to add a further 32GB of external memory. The lower RAM is a matter of concern for it slows down the mobile when you try to run a resource-hugging app.
The device packs in a powerful 2000mAh Li-ion battery, which can easily light up its big screen for a longer time with moderate usage.
