Motorola Moto E Black - Expert Reviews
Everyone loves a revival story and we all want to get behind the underdog and let it make a comeback. And if there is any comeback story in the smartphone world in recent times that has made everybody turn around and see, then, it is the story of Motorola. A decade back, Motorola was at the top of its game, both in the sales department and among the critics. But since then, the firm struggled so much so that it did not even creep up in the news for a long time. However, with the recent success of Motorola Moto G, Motorola is back on track and the company is all set to take its form for further success in future. Motorola Moto E is another value for money smartphone that comes with a length of 124.8mm, breadth of 64.8mm and thickness of 12.3mm.
The gadget, Motorola Moto E, has a 4.3 inches capacitive touchscreen and for such display size, weighs surprisingly heavy at 142 grams. The resolution for the screen is 540 by 960 pixels while the pixel density for the screen is a respectable 256ppi. Corning Gorilla Glass3 technology is used for protecting the display of the device that is supportive of the dual SIM facility, which is turn, has the dual standby mode for support. There are three colors for Motorola Moto E including Black, Turquoise and Lemon. The smartphone runs on a standard lithium-ion battery of 1980mAh, which is quite a bit of power to bank on, but what kind of talk time and standby time does the device delivers as a result, is still unknown. Android KitKat 4.4.2 is the best software platform any device can have at the moment as far as Android platforms are concerned and Motorola Moto E does get the advantage of being associated with Google in that regard. Loads of brand new games and apps can be dealt with through the latest operating system.
Motorola Moto E however, has left a little to be desired for in the hardware department with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, which coupled with 1GB of RAM, provides for a decent foundation for faster operations. There is no secondary camera with Motorola Moto E, which is one of the big disadvantages of the device and depriving the user of web chats through 3G Internet. The 5 megapixels primary camera does handle the photography segment to the best of its ability with a resolution of 2592 by 1944 pixels to rely on. Geo-tagging and touch focus are some of the helping tools for the shutter. Video recordings can be made at a resolution of 854 by 480 pixels. The general combination of 4GB internal memory and 32GB microSD card slot is what Motorola Moto E uses with which, the user can keep loads of data like songs, games, images and videos.
The Internet section of Motorola Moto E is covered by Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE and HTML5 browser for downloading data, surfing websites and also by using some preinstalled web applications like SNS integration. The downloading speed provided for the device is 21Mbps while the uploading speed offered is up to 5.76Mbps respectively.
Operating system and UI
Motorola Moto E comes with a 4.3 inches capacitive display having a screen resolution of 540 by 960 pixels. The gadget did not go for a higher pixel density and delivers 256ppi, which actually gives pleasant images. For protecting the display from any kind of damage, the screen is backed by Corning Gorilla Glass3 technology.
Motorola Moto E has fantastic sound quality with loudspeakers and earphones being the two means to hear music. The device has a music player for listening to music in formats of MP3, AAC and WAV while videos can be watched with the help of the video player that runs on the formats of DivX, WMV, MP4, H.263 and H.264. An FM radio helps those who are keen on listening to programme on local radio stations.
Although Motorola has done well with its recent line of smartphones, the one thing where the company has been found to be quite unsatisfactory is its camera department. Motorola Moto E shows that flaw as it lacks a secondary camera, which means there would be no video calling or web chats via this smartphone. There is a 5 megapixels primary rear camera for clicking pictures. A resolution of 2592 by 1944 pixels is used for the shutter that also uses the prowess of geo-tagging and touch focus.
Motorola Moto E can be used for downloading data at a speed of 21Mbps while the user can upload data too at a speed of up to 5.76Mbps. Motorola Moto E also comes with GPRS, EDGE, HTML5 browser while Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi hot spot are also provided with the latter being the sole tethering tool.
Motorola Moto E would effectively have 2GB of internal memory as the specified 4GB internal memory would be used up to a certain extent by the presence of preinstalled applications. For that reason, users of Motorola Moto E might prefer to use the external 32GB microSD card slot sooner than later. RAM of 1GB is sufficient though for augmenting the performance of the dual-core processor.
Motorola Moto E users would be lucky in the application department as the gadget runs on the best Android offering as of now with Android KitKat 4.4.2 operating system. Temple Run 3, Subway Surfer, Viber and WhatsApp are just few of the goodies the user would be able to get his or her hands on.
Motorola Moto E runs on the standard lithium-ion battery of 1980mAh, which is far from disappointing and has all the capability of churning out a long talk time and standby time, although the real figures have not been released yet.
Motorola Moto E can connect with other devices and send or receive data to or from them via USB port and Bluetooth. The USB port can be a source of charging the gadget should the standard adaptor or charger is not available. The smartphone runs on the comptible 3G frequencies of 850, 900, 1900 and 2100MHz while with 2G band, the device works with compatible frequencies of 850, 900, 1800 and 1900MHz. The web section of the gadget has support for Wi-Fi hot spot while conventional features are available too with GPRS, EDGE, HTML5 browser and Wi-Fi.
Motorola Moto E, when compared to Sony Xperia E, has a bigger display size of 4.3 inches for the former and 3.5 inches for the latter. Motorola Moto E has dual SIM facility while Sony Xperia E supports single SIM. Both gadgets have a 4GB internal memory and a 32GB microSD card slot but RAM is more with Motorola Moto E offering 1GB in comparison to 512MB RAM for Sony Xperia E. Motorola Moto E comes with Wi-Fi hot spot only while Sony Xperia has DLNA and Wi-Fi hot spot for tethering capability.
There is no secondary camera in both the devices while the primary camera is stronger with Motorola Moto E - 5 megapixels shutter as compared to the 3.5 megapixels rear camera of Sony Xperia E. Motorola Moto E has a dual-core processor while Sony Xperia E comes with a single-core processor. The battery strength is another department where Motorola Moto E edges out Sony Xperia E with a 1500mAh standard lithium-ion battery for the latter and a 1980mAh standard lithium-ion battery for the former.
