OnePlus One 16GB Silk White - Expert Reviews

The smartphone industry never seems to be short of surprises, entertainment and game changing moments. Innovation at the end of the day seems to be the main driving force of this industry and that is what intelligent firms would try to focus on. OnePlus has been the topic of discussion and has received a lot of hype for months and now, it has all come down to the final moment. The company has had some interesting ad campaigns to say the least that had gone viral. OnePlus One is the first smartphone from the company that has been assembled by Oppo. The device comes with a massive 5.5 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that has an enormous pixel density of 401ppi and a resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels. The display can be interacted with by using up to 10 fingers.
The display has CyanogenMod 11S technology and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass3 technology as well. As far as the dimensions of the device go, OnePlus One has a length of 152.9mm, breadth of 75.9mm and thickness of 8.9mm. The phablet weighs 162 grams and has two versions based on the internal memory provided. One version gives 16GB of internal memory while the other gives 64GB. OnePlus One has been kept very heavy in the hardware department keeping in mind competing devices like Samsung Galaxy S5. The gadget features 3GB of RAM and 2.5GHz quad-core processor, which are extremely formidable and a treat for playing high-end games and running applications that the Android world has to offer. Speaking of Android, OnePlus One obviously had every intention of making the device top notch in every department and for the software platform too, the latest Android KitKat 4.4.2 is used, which would open doors to anything and everything that Google play store has to offer.
The smartphone would be available in two colors of Silk White and Sandstone Black. The front camera is beefy compared to the general industry standards with 5 megapixels strength and carving out a resolution of 2592 by 1944 pixels for making video calls over the web and clicking selfies. The real treat however, is through its powerful 13 megapixels primary camera that can produce clear images at a resolution of 4128 by 3096 pixels. The rear shutter has dual LED flash, autofocus, face detection, touch focus etc., while it can shoot videos at an enviable resolution of 2160 pixels. HDR facility is provided for both image snapping and video recordings. We do not have much data about the amount of talk time and standby time offered by the device but there is no doubt that the 3100mAh stadard lithium-ion battery will not disappoint. There are a lot to count on in the connectivity segment with microUSB port 2.0, Bluetooth, NFC, USB on-the-go and USB host being the go-to tools for data exchange activities. Wi-Fi direct, Wi-Fi hot spot and DLNA comprise the tethering capability of the device while Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE and HTML5 browser give a healthy surfing speed and a fast downloading speed of up to 42Mbps. Data can be uploaded at a speed of up to 5.8Mbps.

Operating system and UI

OnePlus One mobile has a 5.5 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that is driven by a resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels and a pixel density of 401ppi. The gadget has support for 10 finger multitouch technology. CynagenMod 11S interface is used for the screen with sensors like accelerometer, gyro, compass and proximity.

Other Features

OnePlus One has loads of entertainment tools including music player and a video player as the user gets to hear popular songs and watch desired movies in multiple formats. The gadget does not feature FM Radio, which means no access to radio stations.

There is a great tool for clicking pictures at a resolution of 4128 by 3096 pixels as the powerful 13 megapixels primary camera gets assisted by dual LED flash, autofocus, geo-tagging, face detection and touch focus. Another front camera (secondary) of 5 megapixels is given for the sake of making video calls over the web. The resolution for the secondary front camera stands at 2592 by 1944 pixels.

OnePlus One provides an uploading speed of up to 5.8Mbps and a downloading speed of up to 14.4Mbps. There are features like Wi-Fi, GPRS and EDGE that look after the web surfing activities along with HTML5 browser and enables SNS integration for accessing Facebook and Twitter.

OnePlus One does not provide a microSD card slot for expanding the external memory but the internal memory provided is massive with two options of 16GB and 64GB respectively. RAM comes with 3GB capacity,  which is just phenomenal for accessing the resources of the system at a fast pace.

Other Features

Android KitKat 4.4.2 is the operating system provided for OnePlus One, which in turn would make sure that every possible high-end game and popular app can be downloaded by the user through Google Play Store. Temple Run3 and Moto Racing are some of the games that can be used for enjoyment along with apps like WeChat.

OnePlus One runs on a standard lithium-ion battery of 3100mAh, which is as powerful as it gets in this department. No accurate figures for talk time and standby time are available, but the user should be able to churn out a lengthy talk time and standby time.

OnePlus One has all the possible connectivity elements including NFC, Bluetooth, USB on-the-go, USB host and microUSB port 2.0. Tethering section is beefed up as well with Wi-Fi hot spot, DLNA and Wi-Fi direct. The gadget comes with Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE and HTML5 browser to enjoy the web services. The smartphone is compatible with frequencies of 850, 900, 1800 and 1900MHz for 2G and with 850, 900, 1700, 1900 and 2100MHz for 3G.

Other Features

OnePlus One, when compared to Samsung Galaxy S5, has a bigger screen with 5.5 inches for the former and 5.1 inches for the latter. OnePlus One has an IPS LCD display while Samsung Galaxy S5 features a Super AMOLED display. The pixel density for Samsung Galaxy S5 is 432ppi while the same is 401ppi for OnePlus One. The display of Samsung Galaxy S5 has fingerprint resistant technology and is water and dust resistant as well, whereas the same is not the case with OnePlus One. RAM is 2GB with Samsung Galaxy S5 while OnePlus One comes with 3GB of RAM. There is no microSD card slot facility with OnePlus One while Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with a 128GB microSD card slot.
The primary camera is more powerful with Samsung Galaxy S5 offering 16 megapixels as compared to the 13 megapixels primary camera of OnePlus One. The secondary camera for OnePlus One is of 5 megapixels, thus overtaking the 2 megapixels secondary camera of Samsung Galaxy S5. OnePlus One runs on a 3100mAh standard lithium-ion battery as compared to the 2800mAh standard lithium-ion battery of Samsung Galaxy S5. Both the devices have quad-core processors and run on the Android Kitkat 4.4.2 operating system.

Maybe you've heard of the OnePlus One. It's the self-styled flagship killer aiming to swoop in from China and beat the Nexus 5 at its own affordability game. That's a tall order, but the OnePlus One fills it. It's so dirt cheap, and so incredible, that it's damn near unbelievable. What Is It?A high-quality, $300 dollar off-contract phone that runs Cyanogenmoda modded version of Android that's popular with tinkerersout of the box. A Nexus in everything but name. OnePlus One ReviewAttempting to turn the smartphone industry upside down

A phone with top-notch specs and user experience doesn't have to cost you an arm and a leg. Google has proven this with its last few Nexus devices, Motorola has reinvented itself on the principle, and countless lesser-known Chinese manufacturers have been doing it for years. The latest to launch its company (and an insane marketing hype machine) on this principle is OnePlus with the release of its first phone, the OnePlus One.Following what felt like an eternity (a few months, in reality) of mar Read full Review

A high-end smartphone for Android experts

The OnePlus One has plenty of promise, and it doesn't disappoint. For a non-contract, SIM-free price of $299 (around 180 or AU$320) for the 16GB version and $349 (roughly 210 or AU$380) for the 64GB model, the Android-powered smartphone is one of the best deals you can get today. It's a terrific price for a 4G phone, especially if you don't need the fancy features found on the $700 HTC One M8 or the $600 Samsung Galaxy S5. Yet there are some significant "buts" in this proposition. Getting your h Read full Review

OnePlus One review: a $300 smartphone has never looked so good

Look at your phone. If you can honestly admit that you love every single thing about it, I have good news: You can stop reading this review, since it won't have an impact on your happiness. But if there's even one thing you wish your smartphone could do better, it means you had to make compromises when you bought it. Everybody wants a perfect phone, but such a thing simply doesn't exist. So, we settle on a phone that has only 95 percent of the features we want, and that... kinda sucks.OnePlus be Read full Review

OnePlus One review

At times the mobile market seems like a stalemate between the big players. Every year we see Apple, Samsung, HTC and LG battle it out to make the best, most popular phone of the year - it's like clockwork. But now the OnePlus One is here to shake things up.It's probably a name you've not heard of before, but it's worth taking note. The OnePlus One offers a similar experience as you would get from high-end phones like the Samsung Galaxy S5, but with a major difference: its price.Instead of paying Read full Review
