Viva VM12 - Expert Reviews
Adcom is far from being one of the more renowned brands in the country. So, most of the smartphone users would be surprised to know that the company has actually released quite a few devices already while an array of new gadgets are available for this seasons sale. But believe or not, there is a segment of users who would rather have an Android less gadget as it is simpler to operate and easier to afford. These kinds of devices would hold more value in a developing economy like India especially if the device is directed towards the lower section of the populace. Adcom Viva VM12 is another example of a similar concept where the gadget comes with modest 2.4 inches TFT display with a meagre resolution of 240 by 320 pixels. The gadget cannot be interacted through a touchscreen facility but in fact, has an alphanumeric keypad to accomplish the same.
Adcom Viva VM12 has a metallic look from outside with a glossy back panel that reminds us of popular mobile phones from a decade back. With dual SIM facility, that gadget provides a lot more to the utility program by allowing users to enjoy multiple tariff plans. Only GSM SIMs can be used for making and receiving calls while both the SIMs’ have to be mini SIMs. The gadget is a low-end device and therefore, a lot of features that we assume to be the basic aspects of a smartphone are missing from Adcom Viva VM12. For example, the device lacks a secondary camera and hence, no video calling can be done. The video calling facility through the web is also compromised by the fact that the device lacks compatibility with 3G technology. Also, the primary camera is far from being tagged as strong with just 0.3 megapixels under its belt. The image quality therefore would not be that great at a miser resolution of 640 by 480 pixels. Video recordings do not blow us away either and lack a decent background sound.
Available in the single color of Black, Adcom Viva VM12 comes with a handset, battery, charger, earphone, user manual and a warranty card. The device has a music and video player for entertainment purposes and ensures the user to listen to his/her desired set of songs and videos. Loudspeakers and earphones work well and deliver better sound quality. A standard lithium-ion battery of 1000mAh is provided for the gadget that gives away a reasonable talk time and standby time, although true figures for the same have not been disclosed. There is an FM radio feature as well that makes sure the user listens to popular radio stations. Bluetooth and USB port are provided as part of data connectivity features for exchanging data with other gadgets.
Operating system and UI
Adcom Viva VM12 puts forward a 2.4 inches TFT display with a poor resolution of 240 by 320 pixels. An alphanumeric keypad is provided for the gadget to make it convenient for the not so tech savvy consumers to interact with the gadget.
Adcom Viva VM12 makes sure that the user can bank on the entertainment facilities of the device with a music player and a FM radio providing access to tons of songs. For the former, the user can create a personalized list of songs while for the latter, the user can tune into popular radio stations. Video player is available too, so that videos of decent quality can be watched by the user.
Adcom Viva VM12 has a meek camera department but considering the price range of the gadget, it is a luxury for the user to be able to click images at a resolution of 640 by 480 pixels with the help of a reserved 0.3 megapixels primary camera. Videos can be shot as well with ordinary results. No secondary camera is available as expected.
GPRS and EDGE form the features of the device and hence, web can be accessed with limitations. High buffering websites like YouTube would be very difficult to access while downloading of data would be limited to low sized content.
Memory wise, Adcom Viva VM12 is not that fruitful and can only handle a handful of data and a decent number of contact information. There is no confirmation of the fact that the external memory could be expanded or otherwise, by a microSD card slot.
Games and applications are not the strongest attributes of the device but some built-in games would be available with Adcom Viva VM12 for leisure.
We do not have the numbers concerned as far as the standby time and talk time of Adcom Viva VM12 are concerned, but since it is a low-end device, it is expected to deliver a good talk time and standby time. There is not much for entertainment either, which means the device would not receive too much stress and the resultant loss of power.
Adcom Viva VM12 has a USB port and Bluetooth for receiving data from other devices or transferring them to other gadgets. The data exchanged could be songs, games, images and videos.
Adcom Viva VM12, when compared to Intex Neo SX, holds a bigger display of 2.4 inches as compared to 1.8 inches for the latter. The display resolution is much higher with Adcom Viva VM12 and thus, delivers better display quality as compared to Intex SX Neo. Both the gadgets have alphanumeric keypads for interaction. The internal memory is pretty low for both the gadgets. The battery strength is more with Intex Neo SX as the device runs on a standard lithium-ion battery of 1800mAh as compared to the 1000mAh standard lithium-ion battery of Adcom Viva VM12.
The standby time and talk time provided are higher with Intex Neo SX as compared to what Adcom Viva VM12 offers. Both the devices have dual SIM facility and support GSM SIM only. The primary camera is of 0.3 megapixels for both the gadgets and both lack the presence of a secondary camera. Android software platform is missing from both the devices.
April 25, 2014: Adcom has launched a budget mobile phone priced at Rs.1,099 that goes by the name of Adcom Viva VM12. The device has a 2.4 inches screen with an alphanumeric keypad giving some useful features like dual SIM and a 0.3 megapixels primary camera. For around 1000 bucks, Adcom Viva VM12 is not a bad option at all and could be popular among the budget consumers. The highlights of the device are as follows:
