iBall Slide i6012 - Expert Reviews
The smartphone market is probably the most revolutionary thing that has happened to the mobile and the telecommunication industry in the last decade but there has been one side product that has also changed the way people think about desktops and laptops. In fact that side product has threatened the two in the beginning only to later create a new segment for itself. We are talking about the tablet market which is has literally exploded after Apple introduced the Apple iPad a few years ago. Since then, a lot of tier2 companies have adopted the Android market and collaborated with the tablet segment with great effectiveness. One of the tier2 company to do that is the iBall. The iBall Tablet comes with a standard 7-inch screen. The display resolution is pretty good and has a decent response time but gives a few sluggish performances when too many multiple applications are opened. The hardware of the device is not bad at all with a 1.2GHz ARM cortex processor which in combination with the 1GB RAM makes up for a comprehensive device in terms of speed. The internal memory is formidable too with 8GB which should go the distance as far as keeping a adequate collection of data is concerned. Even if this is not enough, a microSD card slot with 32GB competence is provided for further enhancement of external memory. The device weighs a healthy 336 grams and one of the main reasons for that is the hefty 4,000mAh standard lithium-ion battery. Thus a lengthy usage of the device can be accommodated. As far as the dimensions of the device are concerned, iBall Tablet has a length of 193mm, a breadth of 117.12mm and a height of 12.96mm. The camera is pretty modest located at the back of the device with VGA strength.
The camera zoom is all that the device gets when it comes to any kind of backup support. Data connectivity features include the USB port and the Bluetooth that makes sure that the user can receive data or transfer data to other devices. Internet is looked after by GPRS, WAP browser and the Wi-Fi facility. The user can also connect a 3G USB dongle too which would give faster speed with the web and thus enable the user to download data that may include songs, games, images and videos. The tablet runs on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system which provides a gateway to the user for downloading tons of games and apps from the online Android store. For music collection there is a music player while a video player for enjoying the latest videos. Since the device is powered by the Android market it gets lots of applications including money control, RTI, cricket next, IBN Live, News and weather.
Operating system and UI
iBall Tablet has a 7-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen that is that high on resolution but does provide smooth swiping operations with less sluggishness. This happens as long as the user accesses single or at most dual apps at once. More than that, the device might slow down.
iBall Tablet imparts a music player for listening to the personally selected songs either through the earphones or through the loudspeakers. The user can also watch videos with much enjoyment on the respectable 7 inch display. For most part videos are clear and bright with near actual colors. The video player is compatible with the formats MPEG4, H.264, H.263, VC1, RMVB, RM, 3GP, AVI and MKV. Music player supports the formats MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC and AAC+.
iBall Tablet is not that strong as far as the camera of the device is concerned with a VGA shutter. The user can capture images at a resolution of 640 by 480 pixels with digital zoom being its only sidekick for support. Video quality is a little degraded at times especially outdoors although it works alright indoors.
iBall Tablet offers a reasonable Internet backup with GPRS, WAP browser and Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is a good way to access remote located servers but apart from the three the user can also use the 3Gb dongle for surfing websites like Facebook and Twitter or even downloading data like songs, games, images and videos.
iBall Tablet has a 8GB internal memory which is better than most tablets of its class and should provide ample space for the user to keep a healthy data collection. A microSD card slot for 32GB expansion is pretty good for even bigger collection of data which may comprise of movies, games and songs.
iBall Tablet is loaded with games courtesy Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. The user can further download more from the Android app store available online which has a massive pool of similar resources.
iBall Tablet is bolstered by the standard lithium-ion battery of 4,000mAh. The usage time is generally good but games will take a heavy toll on the device in terms of battery consumption. Internet usage, music play time and videos are okay to work with.
iBall Tablet provides GPRS, EDGE, USB port and Bluetooth for the user to connect with the web or have data exchange with other devices like laptops, computer, tablets or mobiles. Wi-Fi is also provided for connecting with other outside internet connections to visit the desired web sites.
May 22,2013: iBall Tablet is 7-inch tablet from iBall with the device running on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich platform. The battery of 4000mAh standard lithium-ion is more than adequate but the VGA camera is not. Still overall, with a healthy Internet set up, iBall Tablet is a pretty safe bet among the budget tablets.
