Nokia N1 Tablet White - Expert Reviews
For long, Nokia lovers have wanted the company to come out with a device that runs on the Android software platform. Some believe that it was the company's reluctance to opt for the Google's coveted operating system, which ultimattely brought about its downfall. Microsoft has acquired the smartphone wing of the firm but the remaining part is still alive and kicking and has decided to give its fans what they want. Nokia N1 is the very first Android tablet from the company. With it, the company has beefed up the specs and made sure that this time around, the device stands out. For starters, the device has a 7.9 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen and a length of 200.7mm, breadth of 138.6mm and a thickness of 6.9mm. The device weighs 318 grams and looks a lot broader as compared to the other tablets that we have seen.
Let us move to the interesting part now, which is the hardware and software of the device. Nokia N1 runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop, which is the latest version and would definitely be one of the more appealing points of the device. The gadget has 2GB of RAM and runs on a 2.3GHz Intel quad-core processor. The tablet is available in two colors - Natural Aluminium and Lava Grey.
Operating system and UI
Nokia N1 provides a 7.9 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with some decent stats to back it up that include a resolution of 1536 by 2048 pixels and a pixel density of 324ppi. The display is further protected by Corning Gorilla Glass technology from scratches or skid marks.
Nokia N1 would provide users with stereo speakers and a 3.5mm jack, where the latter can be used for connecting earphones to listen to music. A video player can also be used for watching movies in landscape mode, which should be fun considering the screen size is as big as 7.9 inches
Nokia is certainly pushing the envelope with Nokia N1 when it comes to the camera department by providing a 8 megapixels primary rear camera, which is as good as we have seen in any other high end tablet so far. The video quality would be of 1080pixels while we can confirm that the shutter would have features like auto focus and geo-tagging.
The company further strengthens the photography department by providing a 5 megapixels secondary front shutter that can be used for snapping selfies and making online video calls with great quality.
Web browsing should be fast with Nokia N1 and would provide users with Wi-Fi access along with related tethering capabilities like dual band, Wi-Fi direct, Wi-Fi hot spot and DLNA. The device will not support SIM cards, which rules out access to the web through GPRS and EDGE. However, checking mails and downloading of data would be smooth as always.
Nokia N1 has 32GB of internal memory, which is pretty healthy to begin with and can accumulate loads of data including movies and music. For a tablet though, we expect the data to grow significantly as time goes on and that is where Nokia N1 is at a slight disadvantage with no microSD card slot.
This is for the first time that Nokia has come out with a tablet. Android 5.0 Lollipop is the latest offering on the Android shelf and that is what is exciting, as the users would get to experience the best of games and apps including WhatsApp, Dirt Racing, NFS, Ashphalt and Viber. Users can download the MS Office suite as well for opening Word or Excel documents.
No information is provided on how much talk time and standby time Nokia N1 would provide but a 5300mAh standard lithium-ion battery can always be expected to deliver a reliable usage. Since there is no GPRS, the tablet can be expected to run longer than other SIM supporting devices.
Nokia N1 comes with a Type C reversible connector that can be used from either of the sides, thus providing a lot more ease for transferring or receiving data to or from other gadgets. Bluetooth and USB port sum up the connectivity elements with the former working wirelessly and the latter, via the USB cable.
