Car Variant Features
  • Long Description Honda has been in India for last 16 years and is known for their petrol cars. Honda cars have been popular all throughout for their technology, manufacturing quality and their petrol engines. With Amaze, Honda brought in their new diesel engine. It is because of this that Amaze has been in talks since a very very long time now. Apart from the diesel models, Honda Amaze has 1.2-litre petrol variants in automatic as well as manual transmission. Honda Amaze petrol EX, the variant in discussion here, also uses the same capacity i-VTEC engine which is with programmed fuel injection system that delivers a power of 84.8bhp at 6000rpm. Amaze launched in the compact sedan segment and uses the Brio platform. It is a sub-4 meter sedan which takes on Swift mainly. Maruti Swift is a market leader and the Maruti tag makes it very promising car for Indian roads because cars from Maruti are easy to maintain and have a very low maintenance cost as well. Honda on the other hand would have a higher maintenance in terms of cost.Unlike other Honda cars, Amaze is positioned as a common mans car. The car does have an edge in the market because it satisfies all the conditions that a consumer today looks for. This list of requirements from the consumers include the car being a sedan, priced similar to premium hatch, decent boot space, comfortable rear seat, comfortable legroom and falls in the sub 4-meter segment. Honda Amaze fulfils all of these conditions. The other in this segment are Maruti Dzire, Toyota Etios and Tata Indigo eCS.Coming back to the car in question, Honda Amaze EX petrol with manual transmission will deliver a mileage of 18kmpl. This is more or less undoubtedly because of the i-VTEC engine which comes from the Brio. The engine is peppy enough for city drives. The 1.2-litre engine delivers a high power output and also a great fuel mileage. In terms of exteriors, the car gets the typical Honda marque on the chrome front grille. The headlamps are pushed back to give the car great look. Different alloy wheels for petrol and diesel variants. Stepping inside one sees the perfect example of what Honda calls Man maximum and Machine minimum. There is enough legroom, tilt adjustable steering wheel, stylish speedometer, built in audio system with Aux-in and USB compatibility etc. In terms of comfort features there is the advanced audio system, power adjustable ORVM, heat absorbing front windshield helps keep the interiors cool, steering mounted with audio controls along with driver seat height adjuster etc. All in all, the car is a typical Honda with a list of features, comfortable interiors, good quality exteriors and technically sound engine. How it fares, only once the car is used in day to day routine on the Indian roads, will we be able to score it more aptly.ExteriorsHonda basically has given just what the customer demands without dressing it up much and unnecessarily increasing the cost of the car. The Amaze is basically designed for Asian market because the demand for compacts is high here. One can see the horizontal chrome Honda grille with a large marque placed in the centre of the nose. The headlamps also are almost the same as what we see on the Brio hatchback. The Amaze EX petrol version gets 10-spoke alloy wheels along with electrically adjustable rear view mirrors. It also gets the body coloured front and rear bumpers. Apart from these, there are also the body coloured door handles along with body coloured ORVMs.InteriorsThe interiors of Honda Amaze EX petrol are also very similar to what we see in the Brio. The dashboard has two tone with same combination that is seen in the Brio. The drivers seat gets height adjustment whereas the rear seats give superb legroom. The space in terms of height as well as width is more than what is seen in the Swift Dzire. The AC is impressive. There are compartments all around the cabin to hold bottles etc. It can hold a family comfortable and the boot is best in class. The capacity of the boot is about 400 litres. The steering is tilt adjustable and comes mounted with audio controls. The quality of materials is extremely good and of highest quality. In terms of comfort levels, it is unmatched in the segment and is excellent.Engine and PerformanceThe 4-cylinder, SOHC, i-VTEC engine with a displacement of 1198cc is seen powering the Honda Amaze EX petrol. The power churned out of this engine is 88.4bhp at 6000rpm and the torque produced is 109Nm at 4500rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission that delivers a mileage of 18kmpl. This engine is taken from Brio. It is the lightest engine in the category and leads to lesser weight of the car. The engine delivers optimum fuel efficiency and unmatched acceleration. The drivability of the car is very good and is refined standing up to the credible name of Honda. There is not much turbo lag that can be felt. The gear shifting is comfortable. It can do up to 170kmph thanks to the light weight and efficient engine.Braking and HandlingRiding on 175/65 R14 tyres from MRF, the stability of the car is good even when Amaze is doing high speed. The car is well planted and corners very easy. The petrol versions do lag behind in front of the diesel versions. The diesel version gets ABS with EBD. For the Amaze EX petrol version, the brakes are disc in the front and the drum brakes are fitted to the rear wheel. Coming to the suspension, Amaze uses McPherson strut in the front and torsion beam in the rear. With this, the car zips comfortably even on the most irregular roads of India. The ground clearance is also 165mm which keeps the underbelly clean.Comfort FeaturesThe list of features in Amaze EX petrol is never ending, just like other Honda cars. There is the electric power steering, power windows, electric outside rear view mirrors, height adjustable driver seat, tilt adjustable steering wheel, central locking along with fuel consumption display, exo lamp and cup and bottle holders spread across the cabin.Safety FeaturesThe Amaze EX petrol version basically does not deliver anything fancy in terms of safety features like the upper end models. It has the basic immobiliser, driver seat belt reminder, high mount stop lamp along with a WAVE key. The dual SRS airbags are missed along with front seat belt pre-tensioners with load limiter, which are usually found in all cars these days. ProsMileage, Space, price.ConsLooks are just average, high maintenance and after sale service cost.
